about this artist
Born in Florence, 1946, Chia gained a diploma from the
Accademia di Belle Arti in 1969.
His early production was largely in the field of Conceptual art, but in
1981 he moved to New York and became a major international name with neo-expressionist
works combining painterly flexibility and distinctly classical, Italianate
themes.
Recent auction house activity has seen a
sharp resurgence of interest in Chia's work.
