Born in 1962, Gary Hume rose to prominence in the early
1990s with a series of starkly minimal 'door' paintings.
Since then, his subject matter and style have progressively become more
fluid, earning him a reputation as one of the most accomplished contemporary
painters and colourists. Nevertheless, Hume's early use of gloss paint
(often on aluminium) and economic use of form remain features of his work.
