Stonebridge's visceral, highly charged paintings sometimes fail to hit the mark completely, but the best of her work is very fine indeed.
The artist's professed allegiances to Bacon, Abstract Expressionism and even Rubens are clearly traceable in her fleshy, organic mark-making, along with a passing (though almost certainly incidental) resemblance to her better-known peer Katy Moran, who we also feature here.
Stonebridge's charcoal works on paper (below) serve both as a complement and foil to her painting, providing superlative examples of exquisitely expressive drawing with a darkly dangerous edge.
